The Company started as a family run business in the 1950's as a general car repair garage, fuel station and cafe serving the locality and holiday traffic along the North Wales coast. During the 1960's the company started to fit tyres and kept just a handful in stock.  During the 1960's the petrol station started selling the 'Lobitos' brand of fuel and became known as the Lobitos garage.  When the owners changed to selling Esso fuels the Lobitos name which was now firmly established in peoples minds remained. During the 1980's a new building was constructed to provide six new tyre and exhaust bays and house one of the largest tyre stocks in North Wales.

Today over 50 years later, Lobitos still provides the same high level of service to all travellers.

Where does such an unusual name come from?

Lobitos is the name of a place about 550 miles north of the Peruvian capital Lima and is a world class sufing location. Lobitos Oilfields Ltd was formed in 1908 to exploit oil reserves around the place of the same name in Peru and in other locations in Equador, South America. The company was the first of the 'smaller' petrol companies to operate in the UK with its own refinery at Ellesmere Port . Its primary interest was speciality oils and bitumen with petrol being an 'unavoidable byproduct' of the refining business. In 1962 Lobitos was bought by Burmah Oil Co.Ltd and in 1964 Lobitos Oilfiels Ltd sold 12.5 million gallons of petrol through approximately 300 retail outlets of which more than half were in Northern Ireland and the remainder in mostly in North West England and North Wales.
